Testimonials

Here are a few words from some of the people I've worked with over the years:

"Drew is one of the best personal trainers I have personally worked with. His knowledge, friendliness and willingness to serve his clients really makes his classes a lot of fun. Being an overweight and out of shape guy it is easy to get discouraged during workouts but Drew is there to provide encouragement and help me push through the pain and exhaustion to the end. I am also impressed with Drew's knowledge surrounding nutrition. I am following Drew's suggestions for a more healthy meal plan and I absolutely feel so much better and have been dropping pounds consistently. Drew is a total package trainer...he not only talks the talk but he walks the walk when it come to fitness and nutrition." - Adam H.

"One of the best trainers around!! I highly recommend Drew Barquist. It wasn't until I met Drew that I learned about the proper way to eat and exercise. Won't regret hiring him one bit." - Inna

"In the time that I have been working with Drew I have already seen significant and amazing results. Drew has helped me to achieve being the strongest and healthiest I have ever been in my life. His passion for fitness and nutrition is evident in the energy and enthusiasm he brings to every session. His humor and friendly personality creates a very comfortable and positive atmosphere. Drew has made each workout challenging and yet also within my reach. I never thought I would have so much fun working out to the point of exhaustion! He motivates me to push past my limits and to get results and achieve things I never thought possible. If you are serious about making your life healthier and changing it for the better, Drew will lead you there. He is very professional and will do all that he can to help you accomplish your goals!" - Kim S.

"I've been working with Drew for the past several months to get in shape as my 40th birthday approaches.  I couldn't have asked for a better trainer.   He's smart, knowledgeable, incredibly patient and keeps the workouts varied and enjoyable.  Big thumbs up.

Like many in this area, I have a job that involves lots of time in front of the computer.  Any simple physical activity left me winded.  So I made a resolution to get in shape. Certainly not the first time I've done that, but this time around I decided to get a physical trainer to help me stay on target.

When we started out, I could barely do a pull up. Like, baby exercises.  Drew carefully taught me the basics of how to move and how this whole body thing works.  Now, I'm regularly able to do 5-10X what I could do before.  This whole fitness thing is like discovering a secret super power.

Drew's a fellow who obviously cares about helping people improve.  And he's got a good head on his shoulders.  It isn't enough for him to know that something hurts.  He wants to know the science behind why things are off and how the day's routine can be personalized to work on that exact issue.

One of the best." - Daniel C.

"I've only worked with Drew several times so far, but my husband has been training with him for over 6 months now.  (And I can really see the difference!  I liked him [ -my husband- ] before, but he's definitely sexier... I mean more muscular!  Thank you Drew!)

Kidding aside, Drew is great.  I have fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome and Addison's, so I'm usually exhausted and have lived a sedentary lifestyle for a while.  I was quite nervous about working out, especially with a totally fit trainer, because I was worried he might not understand how pathetic/lethargic I feel sometimes.

I didn't need to worry.  Drew is really understanding and compassionate; he was able to tailor the workout for my needs while pushing me a little bit.  He is already knowledgeable about exercise, physiology, and nutrition, but he is always seeking out more helpful information for our health.

He's there to help you to improve your health, so he may push you a little harder each time, but he's not scary like some boot camp coach -- he's laid back & easy to talk to.

Prior to becoming ill, I participated in various sports all my life.  I'd led teams as a captain, ran long distance races, etc., so I thought I knew how to exercise.  But having worked with Drew, I'm now seeing there's a huge benefit to working with an exercise professional.  (And no, I wasn't paid to write this.)

If we can hire Drew as our own household coach we would, but we can't quite afford that, so I'll share.  I'd highly recommend his personal training services!" - Aya N.

"I have been CFing now in one form or fashion for roughly 3 years now and become much more focused in only the last 6 towards really improving my performance. Specifically in the area of Oly Lifting, an art in and of itself.

I worked with Drew recently for a short session focusing on getting my Snatch on the right track. I was having issues getting a clean first pull and had a tendency to pop the bar off my hips. Right away, Drew identified a few issues, mainly pertaining to how I was setting up and addressing the bar. I fell in to the same trap I had when I was first learning the Clean and was trying to pull it straight off the floor as fast as possible instead of separating it in to two distinct, but fluid movements. Not only was his instruction beneficial in the Snatch, but his explanation of how to set yourself to engage the proper muscles has taken a lot of strain off my lower back, were previously I had no idea what I was doing was both limiting my performance and potentially hazardous in the long run.

Afterword, Drew gave me a few tools to aid in shoulder mobility as a means to keep a prior injury at bay and to avoid future issues.

Drew is a professional and truly passionate about what he does. You can tell he loves what he does from the moment you meet him. I will defiantly be back for a full week of hour long tweaks when my time table allows.

225 on Snatch in the next two months is my goal. I wouldn't have had the faith it was attainable without the tools Drew gave me." - Matt M.

"I have been training with Drew at Locals Gym/Lynnwood CrossFit for the past year and I have absolutely loved the results that I have seen. Under Drew's coaching, I have become fitter and stronger than ever before. I am continuously hitting PR's on everything from squats, deadlifts, Olympic lifting to gymnastics movements where I have extremely limited experience and skill. Drew has a phenomenal way of explaining complicated movements in a manor that is easy to understand.

One thing I appreciate most about the coaching that I receive is Drew's ability to coach a diversity of clients. Everyone from beginners to competitive athletes will have the opportunity to improve their fitness with Drew. He is skilled and knowledgeable in knowing how to scale a workout to your own abilities and removed the intimidation that folks often express going to the gym. I highly recommend training with Drew to enhance your fitness routine and to gain the ability to express your fitness in every day life, whether that is enjoying the great outdoors, being more active with your family, or gaining a specific skill set for an upcoming competition." - Noah C.

"I met Drew about a year ago through a friend while visiting Lynnwood CrossFit. That friend later told me that Drew was offering 1-on-1 Olympic lifting and athletics training.  I though, "Hey, that's really cool since he's a good coach!" But that's about as far as it went and I never followed up with setting up a time to work with him. I'm kind of kicking myself for not doing it sooner now.

I finally set up my first training session with Drew a few weeks ago. I got some solid advice on technique tweaks for a particular lift I've been having problems with, and he worked with me on hip mobility since that seems to be where my problems are coming from.  He's an experienced athlete, so naturally he's made and learned from all the mistakes in the past that I'm now making, and could tell what I was doing wrong and how to fix it.

As far as mobility goes, he assessed my knowledge base, asked me about when/how my issues began, what i've tried to do to alleviate them, and gave me some good advice and demonstrations. He was also good at noticing little things about my lifting form and posture that anyone else not as well versed in physiology may have missed.

Basically, Drew's instruction was very intuitive. He knew what he was doing and got right to the point, and gave solid coaching on how to improve my techniques. He's a super nice guy too and easy to talk to, which makes it that much better.  He didnt talk down to me like I've had other trainers and physical therapists do in the past, and that is also a really big deal to me. He even posts stuff to a blog, which is useful.  5 stars for sure, because I'm having a hard time finding anything negative to critique about training with him." - Mallory V.

"I've trained with Drew many times in the past few years. He is extremely dedicated to his craft and truly has a passion about sharing his knowledge. You can tell he loves teaching fitness and seeing people succeed. If you're looking for personal training or a coach to help you reach your fitness goals whether it be strength training, Olympic weightlifting, gymnastics, Crossfit, mobility/flexibility, or even diet advice, then Drew is the man you're looking for.

On a personal level, he's helped with me numerous tips, drills, and cues with Olympic weightlifting and mobility/flexibility issues. I also often go to him for best diet practices as well. He's very thorough and is great at explaining things. He's always been my number one source if I have a question about lifting technique, fixing an achy joint, or what food to put into my body.

Highly recommended!" - John G.
